"Composition" Medium: original lithograph. Printed in 1965 by Mourlot, in a limited edition of 1000 on Arches wove paper. Sheet size: 10 x 7 1/2 inches. Signed in the plate (not by hand). This original stone lithograph is from the rarest of the Mourlot catalogues of the mid-sixties, published in conjunction with London's prestigious Redfern Gallery on the occasion of a Mourlot exhibition and as an expression of Franco-English friendship. $600
Joan Miro "Aidez L'Espagne" Medium: original pochoir. Catalogue reference: Dupin 17. Printed in Paris by Imprimerie Moderne and published as a special insert for the very rare Cahiers d'Art issue No. 4-5 in 1937. Not signed. Image size: 9 3/4 x 7 7/16 inches (247 x 190mm); sheet size: 11 3/4 x 9 1/8 inches (298 x 230mm). Condition: there was some damage to the margin beneath the lower-right corner of the image, which has been professionally restored and is now presentable, although not pristine. Also, at some time in its history the margins were trimmed, including the word "Miró", which was at the bottom of the inscription. Altogether, it is a richly inked impression with strong color. Translated, the inscription reads, "In the current conflict on the Facist side I see massive forces, and on the other side are the people whose immense and creative resourcefulness will give Spain a vitality which will astonish the world." Executed in 1937 to protest fascism and rally support for the Republican cause during the Spanish Civil War. Miro was not generally considered a "political artist" and this was an unusual act for a cause dear to him. One of Miro's most famous and important works -- there are very few of these available on the market and none to be found anywhere at this price. $4000
